Report: Falcons Never Made Offer to Broncos For No. 2 Pick

At first, it appeared the Denver Broncos turned down an offer from the Atlanta Falcons to trade up for the No. 2 pick so they could select Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green–mainly because Thomas Dimitroff told Pro Football Talk Live that the Broncos were one of the teams he had discussed moving up with in the draft. Now, it can be confirmed that those reports are in fact false and there were no talks during the night of the draft between the two teams.

According to Mike Kils of the Denver Post, Dimitroff had contacted the Broncos about a trade weeks before the draft–but that was all. The report also indicates that Dimitroff never made an official offer to the Broncos and all of the talk from weeks before was nothing but a simple discussion about a possible trade.

On the night of the draft, the Falcons swapped first round picks with the Cleveland Browns along with a second and fourth rounder from this year’s draft and a first and fourth round pick from the 2012 draft to select Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones at No. 6. In other words–the Broncos would have been foolish to turn down an offer like that from the Falcons.
