Broncos RB woes continue
The preseason has been especially hard on the Denver Broncos backfield. Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter went down early on in camp. Then the Denver Broncos signed LenDale White and former Oakland Raider Justin Fargas. Fargas was signed on August 12th and released on August 30th.
Last night, the Denver Broncos started LenDale White and he scored a touchdown putting the Broncos on the board first. White left the game with what was being called at the time an ankle injury and he would not return. It is now being reported by Adam Schefter and other league sources that White will be gone for the season, he’s ruptured his Achilles tendon.
This now concludes what has to be described as a terrible offseason for White. The Broncos would have been without his services for the first 4 games of the season anyway as he was scheduled to serve a four game suspension for a drug test violation. And it continues what has been an excruciating offseason and preseason for the Denver Broncos which have had to deal with more than their fair share of injuries seemingly at every turn.
Should the Broncos trade Brady Quinn to the Giants?
The Denver Broncos traded for QB Brady Quinn with the Cleveland Browns this off season, but should they think about trading him now to the New York Giants? The Denver Broncos have named veteran Kyle Orton as the starter and rookie QB Tim Tebow seems to be moving up the depth chart, with rumors swirling this week that he might solidify his spot as the number 2 on the roster after tonight’s game. The New York Giants are in the market for a back-up quarterback with some experience after having to place Jim Sorgi on the injured reserve list this week. The Giants have been rumored to be one of the teams interested in Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart, but his contract might make him too expensive.
If Tim Tebow does reach number two on the Denver Broncos depth chart, Brady Quinn would be the number three and would be listed as the emergency quarterback on each Sunday. Quinn has looked bad on the field this pre season and figures to contribute little this season for the Broncos.
An argument could be made to retain Quinn because of Tebow’s playing style and that he might get injured by running the ball in the Broncos version of the Wildcat this season, but an injury could happen to any player on any given play. If Quinn were forced into duty, do you really have any faith in him to win games for the Broncos this season? I know I don’t.
I would trade him to the New York Giants if they can get something for him and then simply pick up a quarterback that will be available after teams make their final roster cuts if the Broncos wish to carry three quarterbacks this season.
I was surprised in the move to acquire Quinn from the Browns and the drafting of Tim Tebow now makes his time in Denver irrelevant.
Broncos cut Fargas, looking at Ward?
The Denver Broncos have serious problems in their backfield, and after signing former Oakland Raider RB Justin Fargas on August 11th, have released the back today. The Denver Broncos are having issues with keeping their backs healthy, and with Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter still banged up, the move to release Justin Fargas is at least, puzzling.
But in what might be a bit of a surprising move, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released 30 year old RB Derrick Ward. Ward was a part of the Earth, Wind and Fire backfield of the New York Giants team which upset the New England Patriots in the 2007 season. He was a free agent after the 2008 NFL season and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He failed to produce last season for the Bucs, but then again, the team went 3-13.
Ward was used sparingly in the Giants offense, but between 2007 and 2008, averaged over 5 yards per carry. Buccaneers head coach, Raheem Morris chastised Ward this preseason for coming to camp out of shape, and perhaps he was because his preseason production was nominal, rushing for under 2 yards a carry.
However, given the Broncos situation at running back, should the Broncos bring him in for at least a workout? This is a team which brought in LenDale White, who is facing a suspension from the league at the start of the season. Then again, it’s the same team which brought in Brian Westbrook and allowed him to sign with the San Francisco 49ers for very little money.
The Broncos are going to be a frustrating team this season for fans I believe. One has to wonder where the offensive firepower is going to come from. It is being reported that RB Knowshon Moreno was on the practice field for the Broncos today for the first time since August 1st, when he injured his hamstring. I have a feeling, it is going to be a very long and very disappointing season for the Denver Broncos, a last place finish in the AFC West is not out of the question.
Is Broncos Tim Tebow injury prone?
Is Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow injury prone? This morning Mike Klis wrote an article for the Denver Post about how Tebow is nursing sore ribs. Klis dissects Tebow’s play in the pre-season game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Should Quinn be ahead of Tebow for the Broncos?
Should Brady Quinn be the Denver Broncos #2 quarterback ahead of Tim Tebow? Really? Yes, the Broncos traded with the Cleveland Browns to obtain the former first round pick, but Quinn failed to catch on in Cleveland and looked poor in the Broncos game this past weekend.
